Genesis 45 v 5 – 15:
And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me
here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you. For two years
now there has been famine in the land, and for the next five years there will
not be plowing and reaping. But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a
remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance. "So then, it was
not you who sent me here, but God. He made me father to Pharaoh, lord of his
entire household and ruler of all Egypt. Now hurry back to my father and say to
him, 'This is what your son Joseph says: God has made me lord of all Egypt. Come
down to me; don't delay. You shall live in the region of Goshen and be near
me-you, your children and grandchildren, your flocks and herds, and all you
have. I will provide for you there, because five years of famine are still to
come. Otherwise you and your household and all who belong to you will become
destitute.' "You can see for yourselves, and so can my brother Benjamin, that it
is really I who am speaking to you. Tell my father about the entire honor
accorded me in Egypt and about everything you have seen. And bring my father
down here quickly." Then he threw his arms around his brother Benjamin and wept,
and Benjamin embraced him, weeping. And he kissed all his brothers and wept over
them. Afterward his brothers talked with him.
Genesis 50 v 19 – 21:
But Joseph said to them, "Don't be afraid. Am I in the place of God? You
intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now
being done, the saving of many lives. So then, don't be afraid. I will provide
for you and your children." And he reassured them and spoke kindly to them.
Exodus 23 v 4 – 5:
"If you come across your enemy's ox or donkey wandering off, be sure to take it
back to him. If you see the donkey of someone who hates you fallen down under
its load, do not leave it there; be sure you help him with it.
Numbers 12 v 1 – 13:
Miriam and Aaron began to talk against Moses because of his Cushite wife, for he
had married a Cushite. "Has the LORD spoken only through Moses?" they asked.
"Hasn't he also spoken through us?" And the LORD heard this. (Now Moses was a
very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.) At once
the LORD said to Moses, Aaron and Miriam, "Come out to the Tent of Meeting, all
three of you." So the three of them came out. Then the LORD came down in a
pillar of cloud; he stood at the entrance to the Tent and summoned Aaron and
Miriam. When both of them stepped forward, he said, "Listen to my words: "When a
prophet of the LORD is among you, I reveal myself to him in visions, I speak to
him in dreams. But this is not true of my servant Moses; he is faithful in all
my house. With him I speak face to face, clearly and not in riddles; he sees the
form of the LORD. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant
Moses?" The anger of the LORD burned against them, and he left them. When the
cloud lifted from above the Tent, there stood Miriam-leprous, like snow. Aaron
turned toward her and saw that she had leprosy; and he said to Moses, "Please,
my lord, do not hold against us the sin we have so foolishly committed. Do not
let her be like a stillborn infant coming from its mother's womb with its flesh
half eaten away." So Moses cried out to the LORD, "O God, please heal her!"
Proverbs 19 v 11:
A man's wisdom gives him patience; it is to his glory to overlook an offense.
Proverbs 24 v 17:
Do not gloat when your enemy falls; when he stumbles, do not let your heart
rejoice.
Proverbs 24 v 29:
Do not say, "I'll do to him as he has done to me; I'll pay that man back for
what he did."
Proverbs 25 v 21 - 22:
If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water
to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the LORD
will reward you.
Ecclesiastes 7 v 21 – 22:
Do not pay attention to every word people say, or you may hear your servant
cursing you- for you know in your heart that many times you yourself have cursed
others.
Matthew 8 v 12, 14 – 15:
Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. For if you forgive
men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But
if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Matthew 18 v 21 – 35:
Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, "Lord, how many times shall I forgive my
brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?" Jesus answered, "I tell
you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times. "Therefore, the kingdom of heaven
is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. As he began the
settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand talents was brought to him. Since he
was not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and his children
and all that he had be sold to repay the debt. "The servant fell on his knees
before him. 'Be patient with me,' he begged, 'and I will pay back everything.'
The servant's master took pity on him, canceled the debt and let him go. "But
when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a
hundred denarii. He grabbed him and began to choke him. 'Pay back what you owe
me!' he demanded. "His fellow servant fell to his knees and begged him, 'Be
patient with me, and I will pay you back.' "But he refused. Instead, he went off
and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt. When the other
servants saw what had happened, they were greatly distressed and went and told
their master everything that had happened. "Then the master called the servant
in. 'You wicked servant,' he said, 'I canceled all that debt of yours because
you begged me to. Shouldn't you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I
had on you?' In anger his master turned him over to the jailers to be tortured,
until he should pay back all he owed. "This is how my heavenly Father will treat
each of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart."
Mark 11 v 24 – 25:
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have
received it, and it will be yours. And when you stand praying, if you hold
anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive
you your sins."
Luke 6 v 37 – 38:
"Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be
condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you.
A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured
into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."
Luke 11 v 4:
Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead
us not into temptation.' "
Luke 17 v 3 – 4:
So watch yourselves. "If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents,
forgive him. If he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times comes
back to you and says, 'I repent,' forgive him."
Luke 23 v 34:
Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing."
Acts 7 v 60:
Then he fell on his knees and cried out, "Lord, do not hold this sin against
them." When he had said this, he fell asleep.
2 Corinthians 2 v 5 – 11:
If anyone has caused grief, he has not so much grieved me as he has grieved all
of you, to some extent–not to put it too severely. The punishment inflicted on
him by the majority is sufficient for him. Now instead, you ought to forgive and
comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. I urge you,
therefore, to reaffirm your love for him. The reason I wrote you was to see if
you would stand the test and be obedient in everything. If you forgive anyone, I
also forgive him. And what I have forgiven–if there was anything to forgive–I
have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake, in order that Satan might
not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.
Ephesians 4 v 31 – 32:
Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with
every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each
other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
Colossians 3 v 12 – 17:
Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with
compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other
and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the
Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all
together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as
members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the word of
Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all
wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your
hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the
name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
