Is Sex From God?
For
the purposes of this article, let us define what 'sex' is. Sex is the act of
intercourse, committed by two or more living creatures for the express purpose
of procreation, (or continuing the species). From elephants to ants, eagles to
whales, humans to snakes-all living creatures can and do have sex. Sex does not
require any personal knowledge or emotional involvement of any kind with those
involved. In the case of human beings, it can be, and very often is, a nameless,
faceless impersonal act carried out strictly to satisfy a need, and gratify a
purely selfish desire. In the case of other creatures, it is given by God for
the purpose of reproduction and is done by instinct. As I have stated earlier it
neither requires nor does it have anything truly emotional, spiritual, faithful,
honorable or loving connected with it. In other words, sex, as defined above, is
not what God intended for those who are His sons and daughters.
In His great wisdom and mercy, the Living and Almighty God has decreed
something much, much greater for His children: the gift of making love. At this
point, bear in mind that God IS love. Jesus showed His love for us by leaving
His heavenly home and position and coming to earth as a man only to undergo
persecution, trials and tribulations, being beaten, kicked, hit, cursed and spat
upon. He endured degradation and humiliation until at last He was illegally
tried, convicted and nailed to the cross. He did this that we might be set free
from our sins, in order that we might spend eternity with Him in heaven. This
then is true love; that one lays down his life for another. What does all this
have to do with sex you might ask: It is to show the difference between the
strictly physical act of sexual intercourse; done more because of instinct than
anything else, and the blessing of the gift of making love, given by God as an
expression of the deep commitment between a husband and his wife both for
pleasure as well as to have children.
Therefore, by scripture we can say that love is not a 'warm fuzzy feeling', a
selfish need for self-gratification or a state of physical fulfillment; rather
love is an act of the will determined beforehand. This is why scripture says,
speaking of the Lord, 'I loved them while they were yet sinners'. Over the years
my wife and I have counseled many people who have told us, 'I just fell out of
love with my husband, or wife'. This is impossible, for you do not fall in or
out of love. Nor can we make love without God for He is the source of all love.
You need to discern the difference between love and lust.
The Bible clearly tells us what love is in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 which says;
'Love suffers and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is
not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek it's own, is not provoked,
thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears
all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love
never fails'.
In this particular passage of scripture Paul chose to use the Greek word
'agape', which is relatively rare and describes a love based on the deliberate
choice of the one, rather than the worthiness of the one who is loved. This kind
of love goes against natural human inclination. It is a giving, selfless,
expect-nothing-in-return kind of love.
In answer, then to the question: Is sex from God; the answer is 'yes'. He
gave sex to the different creatures of the earth in order to continue their
species. To man and woman He gave the gift of making love; and in making love
there are three who are present; the husband, his wife and our Lord and Savior,
Jesus Christ. Unfortunately, as with most of the good gifts that the Lord gives,
the Devil has used this gift, (making love) and turned it into all manner of
sexual immorality and sexual perversion. In the past few days alone, the e-mail
we have received has dealt nearly 90% with people having been caught or involved
in the act of having sex with someone other than their husband or wife. The
damage that adultery causes is never just between the two people involved, but
affects their entire family, their friends and ultimately society itself.
In our marriage vows, we proclaim before God and man that we will be faithful
to the one we are marrying, no matter what; until death do us part, not until we
begin to feel rejected or old, or we get tired of the one we made the vows to
and decide we need a little 'spice' in our lives. There is nothing and no one
worth losing our walk with God, or losing those we love and who love us, or
causing all that pain and devastation to them.
One last point: Jesus said in the last days it would be as in the days of
Sodom and Gomorrah and scripture specifically mentions there would be much
sexual immorality, lesbianism, homosexuality, the molestation of children and
all manner of sexual perversion. Today you can turn on your computer and find
pornography sites by the hundreds, free of charge. You can watch triple X rated
movies on your television set and even though God has commanded us to 'put no
evil before our eyes', I am sorry to say there are many who profess to know
Christ who are heavily involved in these very activities. So I would ask you
this question: Are you living as the man or woman God has created you to be, or
as an animal? "This day I put before you life and death, now, choose life that
you and your family may live".
To those who have written to us who are already involved in adultery or
sexual immorality of some kind; we will be answering your letters as soon as
possible. This article is written in the hope that those who are contemplating
getting involved would think again, and stay away from that road which leads
only to death, destruction and ultimately, if left unrepentant, Hell.
In Christ's love and service, for His Glory.
