I Hope I'm Saved

THE PERILS OF ENTERTAINING FALSE HOPES ABOUT THE THINGS OF GOD

Scriptures against entertaining the false hope of "feeling saved," or "I feel I'm going to heaven," instead of building our hopes on what God says and promises; Scriptures against living by our emotions rather than the facts of God's Word.

Proverbs 14 v 12:
There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.

Romans 8 v 4- 5:
In order that the righteous requirements of the law might be filly met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit. Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.

Romans 8 v 8:
Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.

Romans 8 v 9 – 16:
You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of god lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ form the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you. Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation –but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it. For it you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you can put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, because those who are led by the spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father." The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children.

Titus 1 v 1 – 2:
Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ for the faith of God's elect and the knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness –a faith and knowledge resting on the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time.

1 Corinthians 2 v 12 – 14:
We have not received the spirit of the world but the spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

James 1 v 26 – 27:
If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight reign on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless. Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this; to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

John 3 v 36:
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects to Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him.

Job 8 v 14 –15:
What he trusts in is fragile; what he relies in is a spider's web. He leans on his web, but it gives way he clings to it, but it does not hold.

Psalm 10 v 6 – 7:
He say to himself, "Nothing will shake me; I'll always be happy and never have trouble." His mouth is full of curses and lies and threats; trouble and evil are under his tongue.

Proverbs 10 v 28 – 31:
The prospect of the righteous is joy, but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing. The way of the Lord is a refuge for the righteous, but it is the ruin of those who do evil. The righteous will never be uprooted, but the wicked will never remain in the land. The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom, but a perverse tongue will be cut out.

Romans 8 v 23 - 27:
No only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we aught to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will.

Romans 15 v 4:
For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

1 Peter 3 v 15:
But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give and answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.

1 John 3 v 3:
Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.

Proverbs 14 v 32:
When calamity comes, the wicked are brought down, but even in death the righteous have a refuge.

Acts 24 v 15 - 16:
And I have the same hope in God as these men, that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked. So I strive always to keep my conscience clear before God and man.

Colossians 1 v 4 – 5:
Because we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all the saints –the faith and love that springs from the hope that is stored up for you in heaven and that you have already heard about in the word of truth, the gospel.

Titus 2 v 11 – 14:
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope –the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.

Psalm 39 v 7:
"But now Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you."

Psalm 42 v 11:
Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for yet I will praise him my Savior and my God.

Everyone must die sometime.
