Tools & Helps to Aid in Your Study of the Bible
Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly
dividing the word of truth. -2nd Timothy 2:15 KJV
So that we may all obey our Lord Jesus Christ in His command
to study His Word, we offer this Bible study tool that you may show yourself
"approved unto God."
I don't have a Bible.
This page is written with you in mind. Since you don't have a bible, you can
come to this site and study everything here. If there is a subject you would
like to study, please let us know and we will do our best to get that study up
as soon as possible.
What if I only have a Bible and no study books?
The Lord is merciful, and He is gracious. He understands if you cannot afford
to buy books. He also understands your needs. There are many of you in Africa
and all over the world who don't have the money to buy a bible. There is a great
hunger for the Word of God to be ministered fully and in truth. That's what this
page is for. The Lord has ministered to us and we are commanded by God to go out
and to preach the same message to those who will hear. If you cannot afford to
buy study books, or for some reason are unable to get them, your bible is
enough. Though study books are a great help to us in finding the right
scriptures, what they mean etc., but it is the Word of God itself that ministers
to us.
I have study books, but not the ones used in these studies.
That's okay too. You will find completed Bible studies you can use as well as Women's Studies
(that are not just from women). However, if you find Bible studies here but don't feel like you have enough information on that subject, you
can look up the words in your own study books and find out more about it. Or you can email us with any
questions you may have. Any assistance we can offer or give will be a pleasure and a blessing. Happy studying!
Some of the words in these studies seem like a different language. What are they for?
You will find parts where there is a word, a number beside it, and another
'different' word.
- The English word is the key word, it was looked up in the study books
(normally a Strong's concordance) to find out what it means.
- The Number written beside it is from the study book. It lists the meaning of
the word being studied.
- The 'different' word is the Hebrew or Greek word. If you are studying a word
from the Old Testament, you will find the study book will refer you to a section
of Hebrew words. If you are studying a word from the New Testament, you will
find the study book will refer you to a section of Greek words.
Why do we need to look up words in Hebrew and Greek?
Before the Bible was translated into English, it was originally written in
Hebrew (Old Testament) and Greek (New Testament). Back then, one word had many
different meanings. It is always best to look up the original meaning of a word,
because that is the way God intended it to be used. When we say the word "love"
in English, we mean it in a form of expressing our affection for something or
someone. However, if you look it up in Greek, here is what you get:
LOVE-26-agape
Comes from-25-agapao
It means affection, benevolence, a love -feast (feast of love), charity, dear,
love.
25-agapao
It means to love (in a social or moral sense), beloves, beloved
It is comparative with 5368
5384-phileo
Comes from 5384
It means to be a friend to (fond of an individual or object) i.e.-have affection
for (indicating personal attachment, as a matter of sentiment or feeling, while
agape is wider, embracing especially the judgment and the deliberate consent of
the will as a matter of principle, duty and propriety. Specifically to kiss (as
a mark of tenderness):-kiss, love.
Though the English word says a lot of this, the Greek gives a much deeper
understanding of the word. You will find with many of the words written in the
Bible, the English word and the Hebrew/Greek word are two completely different
things. This is why it is so important to study the word in its fullness.
